Welcome to Sycamore Class -Year 5
My name is Miss Seefus, and I am the class teacher for Sycamore, year 5 class. I am supported by, and work with Miss Wardley, who is our brilliant teaching assistant.

PE
We have PE twice a week on Monday and Thursday. However, these may change half termly, please keep up to date with dojo messages for any changes, or updates for this. Full PE kits need to be in school daily for these lessons.
Homework Expectations
Children will receive weekly homework. There will be a maths and English focus tasks, which link to current learning taking place in class. There will also be a topic piece to complete – one piece should be chosen from the 9 box option sheet sent home each half term. Homework will be sent home on a Monday to return the following Monday.
Spellings
Children have weekly spellings which they will learn during the week in class. A copy of these spellings will also be sent home for children to practice. Children will have a quiz on these spellings every Friday.
Reading
Although children are immersed in high quality texts at school, children are also expected to read at home every night. Year 5 children should still be encouraged to read aloud as well as reading independently. Please take 10-15 minutes to read with your child and talk to them about what happens in the story. Ask them to predict what might happen next and how characters might feel and why.
Reading Plus
As a school we are a member of Reading Plus, this is an online reading platform that improves fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, stamina, and motivation. The children are becoming confident in using this platform in school and we have also made it available for home use.

Times Tables Rockstars
The children are signed up to Times Tables Rockstars, within the website, children can practice times tables through fun and engaging games. Please contact me if you would like your child's username and password resending. Also, times tables can be practised on the way to school, in the bath or just before they go to sleep!
