Welcome To Chestnut Class - Year 4

A very warm welcome to the Chestnut class page.
I am your class teacher Mrs.Nuttall and I look forward to working with all of you throughout the year, helping you to learn, develop and grow through our varied and exciting curriculum.
In our class we have the fantastic Miss Kaur every day who works very hard to support and encourage your learning in so many different ways.
Together we will ensure that all the children in year 4 have access to reading books that are changed, when they are placed in the basket within the classroom. In addition to your home reading we will ensure that every child is heard reading at least once a week.
We have a very exciting and engaging curriculum in Year 4 that we are sure you will enjoy, we read some fantastic books with stories that will shock and amaze you! In Maths, you will develop your knowledge of times tables, place value, time, money and fractions and also develop new skills in decimals. We work very hard but you will enjoy the fun ways that we learn. We have some new and exciting Science topics including electricity and sound and we will be able to undertake a whole range of mind blowing experiments. We will take you on a journey through time in History examining crime and punishments as far back as the Anglo Saxons and Vikings all the way to the present date, they were brutal! In Geography, you will journey around the world looking at climate and biomes and recap your continents and map skills. All the budding artists will be pleased to know that we have a fantastic Art curriculum, experimenting with colour and texture and creating beautiful pieces of art. The engineers out there will love our Design and Technology units where we will research, plan, design and evaluate a whole range of innovative ideas. We will enjoy keyboard lessons and learn to read music and so much more!
We have PE twice every week on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and a full PE kit must be in school for this lesson. We will earn new skills and techniques in net and wall games, gymnastics, dance, invasion games and striking and fielding. This year will also be your first opportunity to go swimming with school and become water safe, a fantastic skill for any year 4 child.
We are looking forward to seeing you all grow in confidence and skills in your year 4 journey.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch throughout the year, if you have any questions or worries.
Kindest Regards,
Mrs Nuttall and Miss Kaur.

Times Tables Songs, Games and Quizzes
In Year 4, children must take the Multiplication Tables Check. This is undertaken under a three-week period and determines whether children can recall their times tables fluently. This helps us as a school identify children who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided.
Below is a page of support, that can help children when practising their times tables for the weekly tests.
